» CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character NAME: Taicea
Character PULL-POINT: A few months after her return to Divinty's Reach
Character AGE: 2 (Sylvari are "born" full formed adults)
Character ABILITIES:
Aside from her ability with daggers and general acrobatics...
Stealth: The Thief blends into the shadows or their surroundings, becoming invisible for a short period or time or until they attack. Movement does not cancel stealth.
Shadow Refuge: Creates an AoE stealth bubble, everyone nearby is granted the Theif's effects of a Thief's stealth for a short period of time. Once "invisible" the group can move if they so desire without being seen.
Shadow Step: Allows the Thief to teleport to their target and attack. They can also teleport back to their starting point if they wish.

Like all sylvari she can grow her own clothing/armour from her body if needed as well as accelerate the growth of plants.

She also has an empathic bond with other sylvari that are of the Dream (it's slight for those born during different generations and is stronger between those born during the same generation). Basically it just lets a sylvari know that another of their kind is near and that they are of the Pale Tree's Dream and not the Nightmare.

Character HISTORY:
Taicea's pod opened in the Pale Tree branches two years ago during the cycle of night. Like all sylvari she spent her time before her awakening within the pod where her body grew to an adult. Her mind grew as well, she lived within the Dream of Dreams, where the memories of other sylvari reside. There she learned the basics of the world she would soon join. She also had a dream that would be somewhat of a guide for her life. A crescent moon upon a shield that shined like the polished silver. But there was also a dreadful shadow overcast in the dream, the shadow of the Elder Dragons.

She was one of few to awaken during the cycle of night. She was greeted by caretakers and allowed to grow accustomed to the waking world. She was clothed and asked her name and about her dream. No one was sure what the shield could have been referring to so for the time being the dream was pushed aside.

For nearly a year she spent her time in the Grove and surrounding area. During that time she grew familiar with the world close by. She helped those that needed it. She learned things that she didn't in the dream. But always she felt the need to find out what the shield in her dream had meant.

And then it happened. A young sylvari knight had been poisoned and with him he carried the shield from her dreams. Taicea was convinced it was him she needed to help. So helped get the antidote that he needed and once he was well enough he told what had happened. He and his lover had been ambushed by members of the Nightmare Court. His beloved had been taken captive and he was determined to get her back. Taicea agreed to help him.

In the end it turned out the Nightmare Court had turned his beloved to their side and there was nothing they could do to bring her back. Because as far as the sylvari know once one turns to Nightmare there's no way to bring them back. So she and the knight were forced to kill his lover. The two returned to the Pale Tree to tell her of what had happened and there the Knight stayed in her garden to reflect on the events and remember his beloved as she was.

After these events Taicea began to travel a little further from the Grove but she still stayed relatively close. When reports of a Warden outpost coming under attack by a Nightmare Courtiers looking for something called the harbinger Taicea went to help. By the time she arrived there were only a few Courtiers left and many of the buildings were on fire. She helped the remaining Wardens with the clean up, but it turned out many had been taken captive in hopes to turn them. A sylvari named, Malyck would have gone alone if not for Taicea. Although he was a strange sylvari, he had no memories of the Pale Tree and seemed unaware of what he even was. At first he wasn't too trusting of Taicea but her willingness to help won him over.

Together, with a few other Wardens the managed a rescue, however the Knight of Embers (a high ranking Courtier) was there and they barely only escaped. With Malyck, Taicea returned to the Pale Tree to talk to one of the firstborn, Trahearne. Because Malyck couldn't remember anything Trahearne suggested they speak with a Dream Seer known as Amaranda. Of all those connected to the dream she had the strongest and could see any other sylvari's dream. However, even she couldn't see Malyck's dream and it was suggested that he wasn't of the Pale Tree, but rather another tree planted somewhere. It was believed that the cave where the Pale Tree's seed had been found there were others. Although no one knew the location of that cave. But the possibility of other sylvari out there that lacked the teachings of Ventari's Tablet was an interesting one.

Naturally the Knight of Embers was there and overheard the whole ordeal. With such knowledge she was sure to take it back to the Courtiers' Grand Duchess. If the Court knew they didn't need the Pale Tree it would mean they would burn the tree to the ground and it would mean an end to those sylvari. There was no choice but to hunt down the Knight of Embers and kill her before she had a chance to tell the Grand Duchess of the other tree.

Taicea helped rally enough Wardens to take on the Knight. It didn't take much to track her down. But the fight was hard, Taicea mostly stuck to dealing with Courtiers. Eventually the Knight was killed and the secret would be safe. Malyck decided he would travel to see if he could find his tree. He promised to rally an army and return to the Grove to deal with the Nightmare Court.

Meanwhile, Taicea decided it was time that she travel as well. Despite very much wanting to follow Malyck and see this other tree she decided it was best she didn't. She packed what she needed and traveled through the Grove's Asura Gate to Lion's Arch, an ocean-side city built by pirates.

She was immediately overwhelmed by the vast city. Unlike the cheery Grove, Lion's Arch was a city of depravity, underhandedness, and greed (in most parts not all). She soon grew lost as she traveled the streets. She would have been mugged if not for an ogre that had been passing nearby. While ogre's are not fond of anything weak this one was annoyed by the noise. She stepped in and ran the would be muggers off, saving Taicea. Having never met an ogre before Taicea was immediately intrigued. And as she normally does in such situations she started asking many questions which caused the ogre to snap at her, threatening to crush her if she didn't stop. She stuck with the ogre until she found a place to stay for the night.

Because Taicea had been so fascinated by the ogre she decided to grow herself a pair of horns on her bald head rather than leaves meant to be hair. Really they're just very large thorns, similar to the smaller ones that can be found on her face. But she rather likes them.

Her time in Lion's Arch was short. Mostly because she trusted the wrong people and ended up with nothing. But rather than run back to the Grove she pushed on. She traveled to Divinity's Reach and took one a few small jobs here and there for coin. Although finding the job in the first place was hard because of the hardships in the area. With so many people displaced by the centaurs they'd moved into the city and the surrounding area. She was glad to take on any job, after all it was more new experiences for her.

She took an interest in one of the three great orders, the Durmand Priory, while in Divinity's Reach. However, she didn't join them right away, she still wanted to travel a bit more before being committed to a group and having to go where they wanted her.

Her next stop was Hoelbrak, the home of the norn. However, she didn't stay there long. The cold sapped her of her strength and she just couldn't function there.

She returned to Divinity's Reach and continued to doing odd jobs. Eventually she settled into work as a chef...although she was really only good at making pastries. But she continued with it until now...

Character PERSONALITY:
Taicea, like most sylvari, is very curious about the world around her. She also bluntly honest and focused on whatever catches her interest, once again traits most sylvari share. She is friendly, sometimes overbearingly so. Due to only having memories from the Dream to draw upon there are still many things she'd doesn't know about the world. In many ways she's naive. Once again, these are all common traits amongst the sylvari. Their individuality only comes about once they've begun experiencing the world for themselves.

Taicea has had two years to experience the world of Tyria. Many lessons were learned the hard way. In the beginning she was much more trusting of strangers than she is now. But betrayals by those she would have called friend left a bitter taste in her mouth. She's hesitant to share details about herself and is prone to keeping secrets. However, this doesn't often interfere with her attempts at making friends. And when she does make a friend she's fiercely loyal.

Because of her inquisitive nature she asks a lot of questions about things she wants to know most about (spoiler: just about everything). It might also lead to her getting into trouble that she doesn't mean for. Either overstepping bounds with people or wandering into places she shouldn't. Sometimes that curiosity overshadows her better judgement and need for caution in new (and possibly) dangerous places.

She's quite inexperienced with reading other people. Subtle things that most people would pick up on in social situations go right over her head. More often than not she takes things at face value.

She tries to follow the teachings of Ventari's Tablet like most sylvari do. This means not holding onto grudges --although she still might-- or seeking revenge. Although it is not always easy when logic tells her to go against what she's been taught. Also because of the teachings of Ventari's Tablet she much prefers to not fight if that's at all possible. However, when it's not she's a fierce fighter.

First PERSON:

[The key smashing goes on for a while as Taicea tries to figure out how to turn the voice or video feature on. Sure she was showed how to use the strange device but it was hard to remember what buttons to push when there were just so many. But after a bit she manages, at first simply mumbling to herself about strange devices and how they work. People of exsilium, say hello to a pale green plant lady? with what appears to be horns growing out of her bald melon.]

Why couldn't this have been something asuran made? Those are al-- Oh! The light it on, that means it's recording, right?

[She puts on a somewhat nervous smile and gives a little wave.]

Um, yes. Hello, anyone watching this! My name is Taicea and I'm new here. Although I suppose that is very obvious by my confusion at this strange device. We don't have anything quite like this back home. I mean, yes, the asura have all kinds of amazing technology but nothing quite like this. What does it run on? I do not see any kind of enchanted crystal connected to it. And quite obviously it's not steam like the charr devices. Or human...I guess the humans have been copying the charr for a while now and oh I'm rambling. Apologies!

[She clears her throat and remains quiet for a few moments.]

I suppose that was all really. I merely wanted to introduce myself.

Third PERSON:
Taicea was lost. Actually, she was beyond lost. She was no longer home, she was further from the Pale Tree than she ever been before and it all frightened her. Yet, at the same time she was quite excited about the new possibilities ahead of her. A whole new word to explore! New history to learn. New people to meet. New everything.

But there was that little catch, being expected to fight as part of an army of many kidnapped souls. She found this inherently wrong. Why would anyone think kidnapping was the right way to go about anything? It was not only rude but to her it seemed downright evil. And despite the fact they were trying to change history, supposedly for the better, it didn't make them seem any better in her mind.

Plus, there were her own problems back home to deal with. She had yet to find her place in Tyria and the Elder Dragons still ran amok. Maybe if things back home had been settled she would have been a little less upset with the current situation.

But there wasn't much of anything she could do about it all. It's not like she could talk the people in charge into sending her back home. For the time being she'd simply have to accept it.
